Mark your calendars now!  Invite your whole family, your friends, and your neighbors to Movie Night at First UMC on Friday, August 25.  There will be something for all ages.  We will be showing “WAR ROOM.”  For the younger ones, Aimee Myerly will be here to show VeggieTales.  Doors will open at 6:00 p.m.  Show begins at 6:30 p.m.

Here is the plot summary for  “War Room.”

From the award-winning creators of Fireproof and Courageous comes WAR ROOM, a compelling drama with humor and heart that explores the power that prayer can have on marriages, parenting, careers, friendships, and every other area of our lives.

Tony and Elizabeth Jordan seemingly have it all—great jobs, a beautiful daughter, and their dream house. But appearances can be deceiving. Tony and Elizabeth Jordan’s world is actually crumbling under the strain of a failing marriage. While Tony basks in his professional success and flirts with temptation, Elizabeth’s bitterness only increases.

But their lives take an unexpected turn when Elizabeth’s newest client, Miss Clara, challenges Elizabeth to establish a prayer “war room” and a battle plan of prayer for her family. As Elizabeth begins to fight for her family, Tony must decide if he will make amends.

As Miss Clara wisely says, “Victories don’t come by accident!” A #1 movie in theaters, WAR ROOM is filled with more of the authentic characters loved by millions in previous Kendrick Brothers’ films and a vivid reminder that prayer is a powerful weapon.

Community Outreach
New Partner Churches and Community Groups are welcomed and needed. In order to continue serving the community a lunch every Saturday, and to begin serving homeless children through Family Promise, we need help. Call the church office at 896-5683 for information.  We will come to your church or group to talk about this wonderful opportunity to be God's hands and feet in our community

Community Lunch Every Saturday - With the help of our partner churches we serve between 200-300 meals every Saturday to our guests.  Volunteers and new partner organizations are always welcome.

Family Promise of Butler County - September 3-10, we will once again be hosting families.  They will be at First for the entire week.  We are always looking for volunteers to help prepare meals, meet with families, and set-up in preparation of their arrival If interested contact the church office.

Trunk or Treat - October 28 - Every year we join with multiple churches and community agencies and gather around the Historic Courthouse downtown to provide community families with a safe trunk or treat experience.  In addition to the traditional candy, hot dogs, coats, personal hygiene items, books, Child ID kits, immunizations and more are available.

Did you know?
In 2016, 8,608 people were served hot,
homemade meals on real china at the
Saturday Community Lunch.
That's an average of 165 people each week.
Since we encourage our guests to truly be
filled by offering seconds, thirds, fourths,
and take home meals - that came to 15,504 meals
for an average of 293 meals per week.
In addition to tummies being filled, spirits were filled as 2411 people attended the worship service that is held during the lunch.
1318 volunteers (many who are there every month, or even several times a month) shared their love of God and their love of others by helping prepare and serve meals and clean up afterwards.
